On the 29 August 2024, Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII sadly died at age 69. The NZUK Link Foundation would like to extend heartfelt condolences on the passing of the Kīngi Tūheitia. We recognise and celebrate the considerable commitment he showed to advancing the rights and wellbeing of Maoris in his 18-year reign. He has been succeeded as Maori Monarch by his daughter Ngā Wai Hono i te Pō whose election was confirmed at the end of Kīngi Tūheitia's tangi on Thursday, 5 September. She becomes the second Maori Queen after her grandmother, Te Airikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu, and has been given the regnal name Te Arikinui Kuīni Ngā Wai Hono i te Pō. The Link congratulates Queen Ngā Wai Hono i te Pō on her coronation and extends best wishes for her reign.
