Last Tuesday, the UK Friends of the University of Auckland hosted a special reception in central London in honour of Bruce McLaren. The event celebrated the honorary doctorate that the University had posthumously awarded to McLaren earlier this year. Several Link trustees, including Chair Sally Martin, attended and hugely enjoyed the occasion.
Among the speakers at the reception were Bruce’s daughter Amanda McLaren, Kiwi Formula 1 driver Howden Ganley, McLaren Executive Director Piers Scott and Eric Tracey, Chairman of the Board of UK Friends of Auckland University. In his speech, Tracey kindly thanked the NZUK Link Foundation for partnering with them in the McLaren Internship programme. Earlier this year a 10-year extension to this programme was announced, and we look forward to welcoming the next intake of two interns, with one placement at McLaren Automotive and one with McLaren Racing.
